Important Dates

  • Team Registration Opens: 1st September 2024

Team Entry Fees

The registration link for the 2024 Tasmania Cup will open on September 1st.

Tournament Team Fee: $1300 (per team)

A non-refundable deposit of $100 is required to secure your spot upon entry. The remaining balance will be added to your team’s statement and is due by 9th January 2025.

Entering a Team

Select the appropriate division, enter a team name and pay the deposit required. Players can be added at any stage after the team is entered, until one week before the tournament starts.

Individual Registrations

Players who wish to compete but do not have a team can register to join by filling out the Individual Player Registration form. The cost for an individual is $200 per  division and includes a playing jersey. While we strive to place all players, placement is not guaranteed and if we can not place an individual in a team the $200 entry fee will be refunded.

Tournament Format

All teams are guaranteed a minimum of 6 games. The number of team entries will determine the format for each division.

Divisions

The Tasmania Cup offers several divisions with a focus on providing hockey from the youngest juniors up to those experienced players looking for high-level competition:

  • Under 10s: Must be 10 years of age or younger on the 1st January 2025
  • Under 13s: Must be 13 years of age or younger on the 1st of January 2025
  • Under 16s: Must be 16 years of age or younger on the 1st January 2025
  • Women’s: Open to all female participants aged 15 and older
  • Division 1: High-level competitive experience
  • Division 2: Competitive experience with a focus on fun
  • Division 3: Recreational level, new to the sport

Team/Participant Eligibility

Tournament directors reserve the right to place a team or individual in a different division if appropriate.

Any player who has played in any national competition can only play in Div 3 with dispensation.

  • Juniors must play in their age division before playing up
  • Players must be 15 years as of January 1st 2025 to player in a senior division
  • Division 2 teams can have up to two players from Division 1
  • Division 3 teams can only have one player playing Division 2
  • Players cannot skip divisions if playing in two divisions (excluding Women’s)
  • Players may compete in a maximum of 2 divisions

Dispensations

Team captains/organisers can apply for dispensations regarding participant eligibility by emailing the tournament directors with relevant details.

Team Rosters

The maximum number of players per team is 12 skaters + 2 goaltenders. A maximum of 2 coaches/managers are allowed on the bench.

Game Format

Length: 2 x 20-minute halves (two-minute half time break).

  • All round-robin games will be running time with no timeouts or stop time unless controlled by the referee.
  • All finals games will be played with stop time in the last two minutes (if the score is within one goal at the start of the final 2 minutes).
  • Each team will be allocated one timeout per finals game.
  • Tied finals game: 5-minute sudden death 3v3 overtime.
  • Tied after overtime: Best of 3 penalty shootout (continuing until a winner is decided).

Schedule of Games

The Tasmania Cup fixture will be available on 10 January 2025. It will be posted on this website and shared on Van Diemen’s Devils Inline Hockey Club Facebook page.

Scoring/Standings

If you are interested in assisting with scoring, please contact Rob Pike via email at: rob@tasmaniacup.com. Results will be posted online on the https://tasmaniacup.com website, and the tournament schedule and results board will be near the canteen and grandstands. 

Tournament Awards

An MVP will be awarded to a skater from each division voted upon by the referees after each round-robin game. The votes will be tallied after all round-robin games, and the MVP will be announced after the final of each division.In addition to the division MVP, there will also be a finals MVP chosen by the referees and tournament directors after the finals.  

Rule Highlights

  • All games will be played per the ILHA rule book and a set of Tasmania Cup Tournament by-laws.
  • It is a requirement that teams MUST wear matching hockey jerseys.
  • Minor penalties are two minutes in duration.
  • Half visors or face cages MUST BE WORN on all helmets in all divisions.
  • A ZERO TOLERANCE towards fighting and referee abuse will be enforced.

Head Referee

Robert Pike will be the head referee for the Tasmania Cup. He will manage the assignment of referees and oversee conduct throughout the tournament.

Change Rooms

There are four change rooms in operation at PW1, and numbers will be allocated and shown on the schedule and on the standings board near the canteen. Teams are requested to keep change rooms tidy and exit them before the end of the first half of the following game. No gear is to be left overnight.

Food and Beverages

The Tasmania Cup will offer a range of food and beverages. The Tasmania Cup is licensed to sell alcohol, and therefore, no alcohol will be allowed to be brought in from outside.  Grab a snack and a drink and sit in the stands and enjoy the tournament.
